Notes to parents.

Safety.

Sutton Green Golf Club borders on several public areas and roads. We are concerned that your child is as safe as is reasonably practicable whilst playing golf. Our child protection policy and procedures can be viewed on this site, as can the contact details of all those involved with the juniors.

Please do not bring your child to the golf course to play alone. Telephone numbers of other juniors are in the Diary of Events and on the website.

When dropping your child off at the club, unless it is for an organised match or competition, please sign them into the register at the reception desk and ensure that they know at what time they are being collected, where they are being met, and by whom.

Check your household insurance to make sure that your child has suitable insurance cover, particularly public liability.

If your child has a mobile phone, it is a god idea to keep it with them in their golf bag as a safety precaution. However, it should not be left switched on whilst on the golf course or in the bar area as this is strictly against club rules.

When children are travelling to away matches, the junior organisers will arrange transport from the club. However, it is stressed that parents must accept responsibility for ensuring that their children arrive at matches on time, and they should also offer transport wherever possible.

General

In addition to the annual subscription to the club there is an annual competition fee which goes to the Junior Section. This covers entry to all the major club competitions and monthly medals and stablefords. Please pay this on time as after one warning for late payment juniors will be disqualified from future competitions.

For all club matches players should wear their Sutton Green Juniors shirt. These are available in all sizes at a subsidised rate from any of the junior organisers.

If there is a meal afterwards then your child should have a jacket and tie (preferably club tie). The same flat rate charge is made for all home or away matches.

Please check the notice board or web for precise match details and ensure that your child confirms their availability as soon as possible.

Please ensure that your child is suitably dressed for the weather predicted.

Similarly, ensure they have adequate liquid and snacks.

"Encourage the effort as well as the results"
Not just golf Encourage your child to be involved in other activities, especially where teamwork is required, to develop a well-rounded nature.
Cheating and bad behaviour Prompt action as appropriate is preferable as turning a blind eye will increase the chance of it happening again.
Fear of failure Your child should never be frightened of playing poorly because of the way you respond to poor results.
Injuries Keep a watchful eye out for injuries as well as burn-out.
It is possible to play too much golf.
Coaching Avoid coaching from the sidelines. Sometimes if a mid-handicap Mum or Dad tries to coach or give pointers to their child it may be contrary to professional advice and cause confusion.
Matches In matches against other clubs, and in all Open Competitions, parents are not permitted to communicate with their children on the course. Caddies must be under 18.
